The Mysterious Bike
In case anyone is wondering why this picture is on my blog, let me explain. When Bart and I got back from the trip up Mt. Pilatus he wanted to go visit a monument called the Lion of Lucerne (coming soon to blogs near you) which was across the water and up a hill on the other side of town. To get there we wanted to walk across the footbridge which was listed in the tourist brochure as the oldest wooden bridge in Europe. As we were walking along shore toward the bridge I looked over the railing and saw this. Every so often, there are steps leading down into the water (I assume so that boats can moor there and people can walk up to the sidewalk). At the bottom of one of these sets of stairs there lay a bike. A nice, brand-new looking bike.
Of course, I had to take a picture even if Bart was looking at me as if I was insane but I was very intrigued. The water wasn't very deep and I could have walked down and pulled this bike right out of the water. It made me wonder why, in a country as clean and pollution free as Switzerland, anyone would toss a perfectly good bike into the water and also, why hadn't anyone pulled it out? Ahh, the mysteries of life... :-)
